60 Seconds With ... Ben Appleby

What venue has been your favourite on the tour so far this year?
I was a big fan of all the Japanese venues. As you would expect from Japan, the technology inside is amazing at each and every one and talk about military precision when it comes to timing. Every night we had a "5 minute delay".... Delay I know, but at least it was like clockwork!

What tracks do you most look forward to performing?
Hmm … Always a tough question. It changes most weeks, but at the moment I love performing Not Now John

Beside Pink Floyd, what's on your iPod at the moment?
Surprising, as it couldn’t get much further away from Pink Floyd, but I’m listening a lot to Fori La Mura, a crazy clarinet/accordion duo.

Any disastrous moments on tour this year?
Yes … I took my wife on tour with us to Japan as a kind of second honeymoon. As we arrived she contracted a virus, spend 6 days in bed before having to get a last minute flight home early. £1000 later and she was home to her parents. Maybe we’ll try again next time!

Which venues are you looking forward to playing this Autumn?
I’ll always look forward to the Midlands gigs here in the UK as friends and family can come and heckle me for wearing a kilt! I also can’t wait for the Russian gigs as they are always a great crowd.

One item you can't live without on tour?
I guess I should say my sax, but I'm afraid I too couldn’t live without my iPhone. Dropped it last week into some water and had to be without it for 10 days whilst waiting for my replacement. It felt like I’d lost a limb!

Which countries are you looking forward to playing in the future with TSOPFS?
Anywhere … Bring it on! We’d love to tour in the USA, but for me, I’d love to tour Australia.
